My photographs will be exhibited at the Italian Consulate in Boston from September 20 to January 16, 2012. This series of images reveal the rich variety of uppercase letterform inscriptions from Roman antiquity to the Middle Ages.

Le mie fotografie saranno esposte al consolato italiano a Boston dal 20 settembre al 16 gennaio 2012. Questa serie di immagini rivela la grande varietà di caratteri maiuscoli creati dalla maestria degli antichi Romani.

In June, I attended a very inspiring workshop at the Basel School of Design with Michael Renner on the theme of “Inquiry by Design”, which dealt with the relationships between words and images and design research methods.
In May, I was awarded a Marion and Jasper Whiting Fellowship for research on ancient Roman letterforms in Italy. I spent two weeks in May documenting locations in Rome and Pompeii.

In February, I presented a paper during a conference at Sapienza University Rome on the poetic dimensions between word and image.

I am very grateful to have been able to bring Ati Gropius Johansen (daughter of Bauhaus founder, Walter Gropius) to Bridgewater State University for a workshop with the Art Department faculty to share her teaching methods and stories of studying with Joseph Albers.

In August, I traveled to Los Angeles to lecture on education and motion typography in an education forum at the Society of Typographic Afficionados conference.
This lecture hall has become a familiar and friendly place. In January, I lectured on the evolution of western Typography at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts (GAFA). This is my second time to lecture there and each visit is wonderful. Thanks GAFA!
